My Aunt is such a BIG FAN of fried breadfruit (if your reading this. Heyyy Auntie). I am convinced that even I can eat a whole half of fried breadfruit on my own – maybe a whole one if it is small. 😊 That is how good and insanely satisfying fried breadfruit is. You cannot just stop at one.
Now, let me show you how to make it.

Fried Breadfruit
Ingredients
- Green Breadfruit
- Coconut Oil
- Sea Salt
- Bowl of water & sea salt (if you are frying a green breadfruit)
Instructions
- Start by washing and remove the green skin with a knife. Cut in quarters and remove the seed of the breadfruit.
- Cut the breadfruit into ¼ thick slices and set aside. (note: if the breadfruit is hard and green then soak the pieces in salted water for 5-7 minutes) If the breadfruit is ripe or semi-ripe then proceed to the next step.
- Heat a frying pan with coconut oil on a low heat (the trick to perfectly fried breadfruit is to fry it low and slow to achieve the golden brown and crispy exterior and a soft and cooked interior). Make sure your heat is not to o low that the breadfruit soaks up all the oil!
- Place the breadfruit pieces into the oil and fry on each side 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Flip every minute or so for an even fry. (once a fork can go through easily – its done).
- Remove from the oil and set on a plate covered with a brown bag to soak up the excess oil.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and enjoy warm.
