Every chef has their “must have” kitchen essentials, from home chefs to professional restaurant chefs. Today I am sharing with you my personal top 5 kitchen essentials. The appliance edition.
1. Chef`s Knife
My number one is…. you guessed right. A kitchen knife! More specifically a Chef Knife, also known as a “cook`s knife’. My main choice of Chef’s Knife is a Brookstone 7 1/2” Chef’s Knife. I like the satisfying “rolling” action of a chef’s knife, which is why I prefer a chef’s knife to other types of knives. This is the only knife I use when I cook. I use it for everything, from cubing a potato to cutting green onions. I literally use one knife when I cook, which means fewer dishes to wash. Who else can relate?
2. Cutting Board
I prefer to use flexible cutting boards that come in many different colors on some occasions. It makes adding in chopped ingredients very easy, as you can just “funnel” everything off your cutting board into your pot. My go-to cutting board is made from wood. A wooden cutting board is very sturdy and to me I tend to chop faster on a wooden cutting board as opposed to a plastic cutting board.
3. Blender
A blender is a must-have essential in my kitchen. I use it for making my own milk, blending smoothies, baking, and making homemade juices. Oster is the most reliable brand of blender I use. Believe me, my family has run through many blenders over the years and Oster seems to work the best for our constant daily needs.
4. Pots/Pan
I use stainless steel pans. I actually do not have any non-stick pans in the kitchen or in the house period. Pots and pans make making delicious food possible. I don`t have much to say on this essential other than this. I guess it is to the point. Short and sweet.
5. Wooden Spoons
In my kitchen, we mostly use wooden bamboo spoons for cooking. Fun fact we only have two stainless steel cooking spoons in the house. One is a ladle and the other is a pot spoon. My mom is very big on wooden, bamboo pot spoons over stainless steel metal spoons. A stainless-steel spoon scrapes your pots if you stir too hard and that can leave unwanted metal shavings in your food.
