3 Spices To Spice Up Your Cooking

3 Spices To Spice Up Your Cooking

A pinch or two of ground dried spices is a great way to add a boost of flavor to your meals. Here are 3 spices that you can use to spice up your cooking.

1. Curry Powder

Curry Powder is a blend of various ground spices that adds a nice kick of flavor to your meals. Curry powder is usually a blend cumin, coriander, fennel, turmeric, and sometimes chili peppers.

I would recommend starting out by adding in a little (about ¼ tsp) then just working your up to your spice preference. I usually add curry powder in all my stewed beans/peas, vegetable stir-fries, rice, grains, and even a sprinkle on oven baked potatoes. Curry powder is such a low-effort way of adding a huge amount of flavor.

Here are a few recipes from my blog that uses curry powder:

2. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is fragrant, warm, sweet spice that is used commonly in baking and sweet dishes. I have heard that cinnamon can be used in savory cooking, but I haven’t walked down that road yet. 🙂 I love using cinnamon in all my sweet dishes, my general rule is if it has sugar it most likely has cinnamon.

You can find cinnamon in either the powder or the stick form.

A light sprinkle in oatmeal, your breakfast shake, or a few teaspoons in your next baking recipes adds a nice tropical flavor. I like to use the cinnamon stick in jams, juices, and hot porridges.

These are some dessert/breakfast recipes that call for cinnamon in the ingredient list.

3. Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne Pepper is a moderately variety of hot chili pepper that is usually dried and ground into a powder. Let me just say that I LOVE spicy food. Therefore, I would just sprinkle onto my finished meal to my heart content. Cayenne Pepper literally spices up your food. 🙂
