Nutmeg (myristica fragrans) is a dried seed of the nutmeg fruit from the evergreen tree that is related to the myrtle family. When the nutmeg fruit is harvested the outer husk is broken, the red fibrous covering (mace) is removed from the shell. The seed (nutmeg) is left to dry in the shell.
You will find Nutmeg as part of the spices used in Caribbean cooking. Islands such as Jamaica and St. Croix for example, use nutmeg in teas, porridges, and in various baked creations.
Nutmeg has a spicy fragrant aroma and flavor. Combined with similar warm spices such as ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice make a warm cozy baking mix.
