With the cost of living going up and the inflation on the rise – saving money is a must. Here are 6 practical and money-saving ways that you can knock a few dollars off your next grocery bill.

1. Start a Garden
You home garden can look like a few pots on the porch, a tray at your kitchen window, or your entire backyard filled with raised beds and plots of growing vegetables. Start with the basic and work your way up. A few suggestions would be tomatoes, zucchini, and seasonings such as basil, thyme, celery and green onions. A garden is a great way to ensure that you always have fresh and free produce at your convenience.
2. Shop Local
Your local farmer`s market is great place to shop for produce. During the harvest season is where you will find in-season produce sold in bulk. Try shopping local farmer`s market and supporting farmers when you can, it is a win-win.
3. Discount Produce
I personally love visiting the “discount” or “reduced price” section of grocery store. I have scored apples, potatoes, lemons, grapefruit, tomatoes, and bananas at a discount price – these produce items are usually blemishes, ripe spots, wrinkles, and are not up to “standard” to be sold at full price. You can find some real gems in the discount section for sure.
4. Buy in Bulk
Staples such a rice, beans, and flour can be more affordable when purchases in bulk. A quick calculation at price per pound can tell you if buying in bulk in more affordable. Companies like Azure and Country Life are good companies to research for bulk ordering. Shop around until you find the most affordable company.
5. Coupons/Shopping Sales
Staying ahead of weekly sales via the sales paper and online ads is another way to make your grocery bills less every week. Some stores have digital coupons that you can “clip” to your account, it is literally worth $$ to research if grocery stores within your area have digital coupons.
6. Join Rewards Programs
Most grocery stores have a rewards program that you can join that gives you special member access to coupons and sales. Stores like Kroger has a rewards program that gives you fuel points, coupon, free items. Easily knock a few dollars off your next grocery bill. You can also get cash back in stores such as Costco.
