Did you know that you use the peel or skin of oranges as a spice? Save those peels the next time you eat an orange. Welcome back to 13 Days of Spices. A series where we cover 13 different spices over 13 days from December 8 – 20. For Day 8 we are covering Orange Peel.
Orange peels are the dried skin of the orange (citrus sinensis) fruit. Did you that the skin of orange peels can be quite useful in your cooking?
You can easily make your own orange peel by saving the skins the next time you cut and eat and eat an orange. I just leave my skins on the counter to naturally air dry. Then I either store in a glass container or a brown bag.
How to Use Orange Peel
Add a peel in your porridge for a unique bright and citrus taste. What would you use orange peels for?
Orange Peel Tea
In a pot bring 3 cups of water to boil.
Once boil add in 1 orange peel and leave pot on the stove.
Once cool. Sweeten to taste and enjoy a boost of Vitamin C.
