Did you know that Cardamon is the world 3rd most expensive spice after Saffron and Vanilla? Welcome back to 13 Days of Spices. A series where we cover 13 different spices over 13 days here on my blog. For Day 11 we are covering Cardamon.
Cardamon (Elettaria cardamomum) is a part of the ginger turmeric (along with turmeric) and thrive in tropical climates. The color of your cardamon can tell you a lot of itself. Green cardamon means that it is in its dried natural form and a creamy white color means that your cardamon has been bleached. While brown cardamon is not “true cardamon (see cinnamon blog post for an example). So, go for the green cardamon when you can.
Cardamon has quite a few culinary uses to highlight its unique delicate yet faintly ginger-like flavor. You can use it in your baking to add an elevated level of flavor. You can find cardamon in various rice and curried dishes.
Health Benefits of Cardamon
