Learn how to make tahini with brown sesame seeds instead of the traditional white sesame seeds. You only need 3 ingredients for this recipe.
Brown Sesame Seed Tahini and unsulfured blackstrap molasses are a heavenly combination to me on a warm homemade oat cinnamon waffle for breakfast. I love to add a heaping spoonful of tahini to my pasta and red beans, my favorite combo.
Don`t let this tiny little seed fool you, it is jam-packed with many minerals and has awesome health benefits. Sesame seeds are rich in heart-healthy fats, essential fatty acids, zinc, and Vitamin E. Sesame seeds contain Selenium which has anti-cancer properties and fights vision and heart problems.
With just 3 simple and easy-to-find ingredients from your pantry, you can make your own Tahini. By using coconut oil you are not just getting the health benefits of sesame seeds but also the amazing health benefits of coconut oil.
Tahini is usually made with hulled white sesame seeds. However, I prefer the taste of the finished tahini using toasted brown sesame seeds. It is very important that when you are toasting the sesame seeds you do not burn them, as burnt sesame seeds taste strong. Trust me on this. I have been there multiple times and done that. Trust me I have burnt sesame seeds and still ate them. (I still regret it)
Once properly toasted the brown sesame seeds will have a toasted brown color that will be darker than the raw sesame seeds, as shown in the picture below.
You will smell the rich, seedy, and toasted. Be careful not to burn your sesame seeds. Don`t worry if your pan starts to smoke light, this happens every time I toast sesame seeds. Along as the smoke is not thick and the seeds are not black your sesame seeds are fine.
