Freezing pesto is perfect for the cold winter months when homegrown fresh basil is not accessible unless you have a couple of indoor plants going. It is such a great feeling to add a vibrant pop of fresh basil flavor to your meals during the dreary cold winter months.
During the summer and fall months, when my outdoor basil trees are vibrant and full of basil leaves. I batch make pesto and freeze in ice cube trays and store in freeze safe bags to use during the winter months.
My Basil Pesto recipe is perfect for freezing. Each pesto cube contains about 1 tablespoon + 1 tsp of fresh basil pesto.

The next day remove the pesto cubes from the ice cube tray and store in a freeze safe container or gallon bag. Make sure that the bag or container has a tight seal. The last thing you want is to have your pesto smelling and tasting like the freezer.
Helpful Tip: Run the bottom of the ice cube tray under some water so the pesto cubes pop easily out.
