10 Plant-Based Pantry Staples

Plant-based cooking can be made so easy with the right staples. Here are 10 of my pantry staples that fuel my plant-based lifestyle for 20+ years.

Dry Beans – beans are the main source of protein in my kitchen. You can do so much from mash, blend, fry, or bake. Chickpeas, pinto beans, lentils, red kidney beans, pigeon peas, black beans, and yellow spilt peas are some of my all-time favorites.

Spelt Flour – the “mother grain”, spelt is a staple in my breads, pancakes, baked macaroni. Though expensive, spelt is solely the only flour I use.

Grains – rice, quinoa and millet are great to keep on hand. You can build a filling grain bowl, bind a hearty lentil loaf, or serve alongside stewed peas. This sweet plantain vegetable rice is my favorite rice recipe on blog.

Curry Powder – curry powder is a blend of dried spices that adds a burst of flavors that can literally seasoned anything

Panelapanela is a hard therefore no-refined, sugar made from evaporated cane juice. This is the only sugar sweetener that I use beside honey and molasses.

Dried/Powdered Spices – a quick and easy way to add depths of flavor without much effort. Curry powder, turmeric, paprika, dried herbs, are some of my favorites.

Leafy Greens – greens, greens, and more greens. Greens are an essential in my daily cooking, I eat collard greens, kale, lettuce, pak choi or callaloo. I believe that every meal should be serves with greens of some sort.

Green Onions – green onions make daily appearances in my kitchen, literally every savory meal I cook contains green onions. Once you cut the bottoms off, plant them and grow back your money.

Nuts (raw and toasted) – these are essentials for making so many plant-based staples from nut milks to cashew spread. Coconut, almonds, peanuts and cashews are the main nuts I keep stocked in my pantry.

Fresh Fruits – fruits are essential not only for eat as is but is great for blending into juice.
